Bulk Molding Compound BMC is the acronym of Bulk Molding Compound. BMC is a kind of semi-dry method of manufacturing glass fiber reinforced thermosetting products moulded the middle material, composed of unsaturated polyester resin, low shrinkage/low profile additives, initiator, release agent, such as mineral filler in advance mix into a paste, then add thickening agent, colorant, etc., with different length of glass fibers, in special material kettle stirring, The thickening process is carried out to form a lumpy intermediate material that can be used for molding and injection molding.

Bulk molded plastics (BMC) are highly filled and reinforced with short fibers, 10 to 30 percent glass fiber reinforced, and are typically between 1/32 inch and 1/2 inch (12.5mm) in length.

According to the different final application field, the composite material can be precisely controlled in size, good flame retardant and electric mark resistance, high dielectric strength, corrosion resistance and stain resistance, excellent mechanical properties, low shrinkage and stable color. Bulk molded plastics (BMC) have excellent flow characteristics and insulation and flame retardancy, making them ideal for a wide range of applications requiring precise detail and size. The material is available in 75 colors and can withstand powdered or water-based coatings.

A lumpy prepreg of chopped glass fiber mixed with unsaturated polyester paste. Suitable for molding, transfer molding, injection molding and other processes, made of products with good mechanical properties, high dimensional stability, good surface finish, water resistance, oil resistance, excellent corrosion resistance, heat resistance, excellent electrical properties, especially arc resistance can reach about 190s. According to the formula with resin slurry, the main composition of the same sheet molding plastic, filler increase, generally do not need thickening agent, and then the resin slurry and cut glass fiber (length of about 3 ~ 25mm) fully mixed system. Mainly used in electrical appliances, motors, radio, instrumentation, machinery manufacturing, chemical equipment, construction, transportation, national defense and other departments.

1. General Performance: The proportion of BMC (DMC) is large, between 1.3 and 2.1; The appearance of the product is bright, the feel is good, there is a hard and thick feeling; Heating with fire will produce a lot of lampblack, and styrene smell; Some varieties of BMC (DMC) are non-flammable, while others are highly flammable, leaving behind inorganic substances.

2. Dimensional stability: the linear expansion coefficient of BMC (DMC) is (1.3~3.5) ×10-5K-1, smaller than the general thermoplastics, so that BMC (DMC) has a high dimensional stability and dimensional accuracy. Temperature has little effect on the dimensional stability of BMC (DMC), but humidity has more serious effect, BMC will expand after hygroscopic. The linear expansion coefficient of BMC (DMC) is close to that of steel and aluminum, so it can be compounded with them.

Mechanical Strength: The tensile, bending and impact strength of BMC (DMC) are better than that of thermoplastics, and the creep resistance is better than that of thermoplastics.

Water and solvent resistance: BMC (DMC) has good corrosion resistance to water, ethanol, aliphatic hydrocarbons, grease and oil, but it is not resistant to ketones, chlorine hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, acids and bases, etc. BMC (DMC) has low water absorption and good insulation performance after soaking for a day.

5. Thermal resistance: The thermal resistance of BMC (DMC) is better than that of general engineering plastics. The thermal deformation temperature of BMC (DMC) is 200~280ºC and can be used at 130ºC for a long time.

Pictures of aging resistance: BMC (DMC) has a good aging resistance, which can be used indoors for 15~20 years, and after 10 years of outdoor exposure, its strength retention rate is more than 60%.

7. Press electric performance: BMC (DMC) has the most outstanding arc resistance, which can reach about 190 seconds.

8. Low odor: BMC (DMC) used styrene crosslinking agent after curing will still have 0.1% residue, heating will emit odor. Therefore, BMC (DMC) used in food utensils (such as microwave cutlery) should choose UP resin without residual styrene haplotype.
